Raffles College Explore Jogja 2023
On Monday, 6 March – Thursday , 09 March 2023. Raffles College Business and Design student are joined together for 4 days 3 nights study trip to Yogyakarta in West Java, Indonesia.
Yogyakarta is the main tour destination of the island of Java in Indonesia. Yogyakarta (some people call it Jogja, Jogjakarta, or Yogya) is a city with outstanding historical and cultural heritage. Yogyakarta was the centre of the Mataram Dynasty (1575-1640), and until now the kraton (the sultan’s palace) exists in its real functions. Also, Yogyakarta has numerous thousand-year-old temples as inheritances of the great ancient kingdoms, such as Borobudur temple established in the ninth century by the dynasty of Syailendra. More than the cultural heritages, Yogyakarta has beautiful natural panorama.
The objective of the event is to enhance classroom learning by making real world connections and to reinforce experiential and contextual learning. During the trip students visited various Indonesian cultural heritage such as Prambanan Temple, the largest Hindu (Shiva) temple complex in Indonesia that built in the 9th century AD. Borobudur temple, the biggest Buddhist temple in the ninth century, Sultan Palace and Tamansari Water Castle, they also visited Sonobudoyo museum, a Javanese history and culture museum and library.
Aside from visiting Indonesian cultural heritage, students also enjoying the beautiful panorama of Yogyakarta in He Ha Skyview. They were attending entrepreneurship workshop at Dagadu, the most popular T-shirt brand in Yogyakarta. Thus, they visited Gameloft company, a Pioneer in video games creation since 2000.
Not only for educational purposes, but students are also given free time to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yogyakarta, tasting its most popular cuisine, shopping and walking around the famous Malioboro street. Raffles College Director, Head of Business Program, Head of Design Program, Lecturers and Head of Academic Administration also participated in the event. We truly believe through this trip, Raffles College students will enhance their skills and knowledge that are beneficial for their future.
