Boarding Houses are a cheaper option compared to Apartments/ Condominiums, and there are many boarding house (kost) available in Jakarta. The price-range for these rooms vary according to the location, facilities, or amenities provided by the landlord, but usually the monthly rent ranges between IDR 1,500,000.- to IDR 2,500,000. In addition, most boarding houses (kost) normally have a security guard in the compound to ensure tenant safety, and have live-in housekeepers for general house cleaning and laundry service.
Some boarding houses have specific tenant policies, such as gender restrictions, limitation on number of guests, or no animals in the room. The landlord should inform prospective tenants of these terms prior to confirmation of accommodation. The most important thing is to make sure that you secure all terms in the tenancy contract before you move in.
